David Chipperfield delivered one of the most incisive reflections of the NEXT IN Summit. At a time when the future feels increasingly difficult to envision, the architect championed the role of architecture—and culture as a whole—as a vital tool for restoring meaning and dignity to our cities. At the second edition of the NEXT IN Summit, Pritzker Prize-winning British architect David Chipperfield delivered one of the encounter’s most memorable addresses. His intervention was a profound and necessary reflection on the role of architecture, art, and design in a historical moment defined by uncertainty and a collective sense that the future is slipping through our fingers.

For Chipperfield, the future is not designed solely through grand architectural icons, but within the invisible fabric of our neighbourhoods, squares, and public buildings. “True transformation,” he maintained, “lies in restoring dignity, care, and meaning to the places where people live, work, and meet.” In the same way that a cathedral can be restored by following the “natural” rhythms of time, our cities can also be regenerated through imagination, sensitivity, and a deep commitment to the common good.
