Amazigh Space
Located in the historic Carmen del Porcel, near the Alhambra in Granada, the Amazigh Space is a museum dedicated to the history and cultural legacy of the Amazigh (Berber) peoples and their influence on Al-Andalus. Housed in a restored Arab-plan building, the museum integrates significant heritage elements, including an Almohad wall and a Nasrid tower.
The exhibition is structured around five thematic areas—North Africa, the Amazigh and Al-Andalus, jewelry, daily life, and architecture—and brings together exceptional pieces from the Leila Mezian Foundation, the Jorge Dezcallar Collection and the Museo de la Alhambra. Through archaeological objects, jewelry, ceramics, textiles, weapons, domestic utensils and architectural elements, visitors are introduced to the cultural richness and historical significance of the Amazigh people.
Designed for a highly sensitive heritage setting, the project combines bespoke display solutions, tailored lighting and audiovisual resources to enhance the interpretation of the collections while respecting the historic architecture, creating an engaging visitor experience that connects audiences with the Amazigh legacy.
Based on a conceptual design by Juan Fernández, ACCIONA Cultura developed and delivered the complete museographic project, including exhibition design, scenography, graphic identity, audiovisual production, content integration, lighting and the installation of the collection.
